Is the "That Girl" trend toxic?
Whoever regularly watches TikTok, Instagram, or is active on Pinterest could not miss the "That Girl" trend—getting up at 5 in the morning, drinking green juice and from 7 yoga, or jogging. It usually has a perfect kitchen, a sunny apartment, a fridge full of green vegetables, and a perfectly tuned apartment. She wears matching sets for workouts and enjoys drinking ice matcha latte. This often appears in short videos of girls who follow the "That Girl" aesthetic.
These girls primarily promote a wellness aesthetic, which according to the global wellness institute, is "the active pursuit of activities, choices, and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health." As the description suggests, taking care of your health and introducing healthy routines into your life is healthy, but as long as it motivates us before it frustrates us because of unattainable goals.
Being "That Girl" is not that easy. For those who, for example, live with their parents or do not have time to do all the activities that "that Girl" requires, this lifestyle is challenging to achieve. Not everyone can afford to have the perfect apartment, buy a lot of matching sets for exercise, or afford daily coffee from a cafe.
One of the main problems this trend brings is the easy way to succumb to Toxic diet culture, which counts calories, and photos of extremely healthy foods feed. Frequent restrictions can lead to unhealthy eating behavior or problems such as anorexia nervosa.
"That Girl" aesthetic as such, however, may not be wrong in some respects. On the contrary, a healthy dose of motivation, or inspiration for a healthy lifestyle, can be helpful. With the proper care for your body and mind, we can start to prosper in other aspects of life thanks to a lot of energy. But it is essential for our mental well-being that we do not compare ourselves to anyone.
And what about you? Do you think "That Girl" is motivating or toxic?

hey!
OdpovědětVymazatto answer your question, if the "It girl" trend is toxic. I think, that it very much depends on how a person views it and with what approach. If we're looking at it from the point of view that it is somehow motivating for us, then I think that it is okay; to the point where all the girls know where it could lead. I had a friend who followed this trend and after a while she started being bulimic. I personally have a negative experiences with the "It girl" trend, since I think it hurts more than it does good. Girls usually do not know when to stop and trying so hard to be perfect for others that they stop doing that for themselves. It looks cute and nice on the outside, but what what else is to it?
Thank you for this blog, it definitely needs to be talked about more! x
Hi!
OdpovědětVymazatI use social media every day and I never heard about this trend before. But I can imagine what type of girl is that as you describe it. On one hand I believe that this can negatively impact young girls especially when they do not have the time to do all these tasks ''that girl''needs to do, on the other I think it can also positively impact some girls in a motivational way. I also think that sometimes it is not even realistic and people are just posting these photos and in reality they may eat something else than these detox juices etc.. :D I agree with your arguments that you included! :)
